Hyderabad: 8-year-old boy dies in a hospital in Panjagutta
Hyderabad: A seven-and-a-half-year-old boy who was admitted in a private hospital died while undergoing treatment, allegedly due to negligence of the doctors. Panjagutta police booked a case of death due to negligence and further investigation is underway.
According to the complainant, Ms M. Radha, mother of the victim M. Vignesh, the boy was rushed to Pragnya Hospital at 9 pm on Saturday with high fever. Doctors examined him and admitted him in the hospital. Early the next morning he was sent for a blood test and found to be dengue positive.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Ms Radha said, “On Monday at about 1 am, my son’s temperature increased and he showed signs of irritation. We shifted him to the ICU for treatment. Vignesh started vomiting and the duty doctors and nurses were derelict in performing their duties. They were watching videos and asked me to measure the temperature,” Ms Radha alleged.
She added that the hospital personnel gave the boy some injection. On Wednesday, doctors informed her that the boy was in a critical state could not breathe and was on ventilator support. On Thursday at about 8.30 pm, doctors declared Vignesh dead. Based on a complaint against doctors of Pragna Hospital, Panjagutta police booked a case of 304(A) IPC (causing death by negligence) and further investigation is underway.
When contacted, officers at Pragna Hospital refused to speak on the issue. Panjagutta inspector Karunakar Reddy said, “We are investigating the case and a through probe will be conducted. Those found guilty will have stringent action taken against them.”
