Suicide or Blue Whale death?
Rajahmundry: An engineering student committed suicide by hanging self to death at his house at Vanguru Lakshmipuram village of Pedavegi mandal in West Godavari on Tuesday. Police suspect the boy was playing Blue Whale game.
According to Pedavegi police, Badugu Vamsi, 20 was studying engineering second year (mechanical) at a private college at Eluru but stopped attending classes since July 22. He would go out regularly in the morning saying he was going to college and returned in the evening. The college authorities called up his parents several times. His parents who work as labourers, would tell the college staff that their son was not well.
On Tuesday, the boy hanged himself to death from a wooden log in the ceiling. Police found a mobile phone in his pocket. The student sent a text message to his father on his mobile phone in the morning that informed them that he was killed. “I was cut with a knife. They threatened to kill all the family members if I inform about it,” the message read.
Police said that the boy had fared well in the first year but had become irregular and out of 12 papers, he failed in seven. His friends informed police that he had turned moody and was not mingling with them as he used to do earlier. Police ruled out any issue of ragging in the college and is trying to find out if the student was visiting an Internet café to play the game.
The police booked a case of suspicious death under section 174 of CrPC.
Pedavegi SI Kanthi Priya said, "We are suspecting that the student might be a victim of Blue Whale game challenge as he committed suicide by leaving a message that he was killed and some people were trying to attack the family members. We are pursuing the case further. We have noticed scars of razor blade cuts on his wrist giving indication that he tried to kill himself earlier too."
