Kozhikode: Fire department officials have demanded that a fire-proof declaration be displayed in front of buildings for public awareness, following the footsteps of the Mumbai fire brigade. This suggestion was made to Fire and Rescue DGP Tomin Thachankary by assistant divisional officer Arun Bhaskar (Kozhikode) after he attended the Fire India Expo 2017 held in Mumbai.
The Mumbai fire brigade had already installed the system even in small establishments, said Mr Arun. “It was an international exhibition and seminar on modern fire safety. The participants were introduced to new technologies and equipment in the three-day seminar that concluded on Saturday,” he said.
After the seminar, the officers were taken on a tour of the city and showed the advanced techniques being used. “The public is also advanced as well as shop owners. They take pride in maintaining their buildings fire-proof and display a declaration in front of the building,” the officer said.
Mr Arun said that a request for making such a declaration mandatory, was already submitted to the DGP, as the department was in the final stages of redrafting archaic laws.
The names of the buildings that do not comply with fire and rescue regulations were already displayed on the website by the state.
