Cauvery water row: Karnataka bride walks to Tamil Nadu to get married
BENGALURU: It was a walk to remember for a 25-year-old bride from Bengaluru who had decked up in bridal finery for the big day. But she had to walk several kilometers on Tuesday morning after the city witnessed an undeclared bandh, a day after violent protests broke out in the city over the Cauvery water dispute.
The bride, Prerna, was scheduled to get married in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.
But the protests, rioting and arson upset all her plans and marriage-related rituals.
With no option left, Prerna and her family members first took a bus to Hosur. They reached somewhere close to the border, and had to hop into an autorickshaw, which dropped them half-way, from where Prerna and her family members had to walk down till the border. After crossing the border, they were planning to take a bus to Vaniyambadi, but had to drop the plan as it was not very safe. “It was unforgettable day for my family and me. We are facing a lot of problems,” Prerna said.
