Telangana: RTI query on Osmania General Hospital security filed

The query has found faults with awarding contracts, and also in paying wages to guards.

Hyderabad: An RTI query on the existing security system in the Osmania General Hospital(OGH) has been filed with the Telangana government, alleging that the hospital is not only unsafe for junior doctors but also for patients.

The query has found faults with awarding contracts, and also in paying wages to guards. Currently, there are only 70 security guards in the hospital. The required number is 150. The petitioner, Mujtaba Hasan Askari, said, “Earlier, junior doctors demanded dismantling of the existing security system as they found it inadequate to protect them. But apart from doctors’ security, there is also the need to look at the security issues of patients.”

Mr Hasan alleged that security guards ask for a bribe from patients’ relatives. Stealing of medicines, mobile phones, wheelchairs and stretchers are also rampant. However, no action is taken by the administration and no complaint is filed with the police.

A junior doctor in his complaint to health minister Dr Laxma Reddy has alleged that security guards are often found in an inebriated condition in the night.
