Maha farmers' children to observe fast on Independence Day

Children will join the hunger strike called by the farmers of Maharashtra to demand repeal of 'anti-farmer' laws.

Mumbai: Children of farmers will observe a day-long hunger strike at various places in Maharashtra on Independence Day to seek repeal of 'anti-farmer' laws.

"We have decided to hold 'atmaklesh andolan' at Azad Maidan here on August 15, to demand that farmers be freed from the clutches of the legislations which have enslaved them," Bhumiputra Sangharsh Vahini president Abhijeet Patil Falke told reporters.

"Government has cheated farmers and failed to resolve any of the issues affecting them," said Falke, a Pune-based IT entrepreneur.

Children of farmers will join in the agitation on I-Day in large numbers all over the state, he said.

Vahini leader Amar Habib said the Government had failed to repeal three legislations -- land ceiling act, essential services act and land acquisition act.
