Security guard opens fire at colleague

The incident took place at the State Bank of India in Gunfoundry area near Abids in the city on Wednesday evening

Hyderabad: Infuriated over repeated banter by a colleague, the security guard of a bank opened fire at a contract employee of the bank, leading to tension in the area. The incident took place at the State Bank of India in Gunfoundry area near Abids in the city on Wednesday evening.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police, Abids, K. Venkat Reddy, the guard, identified as Md Sadar Khan, 54, reportedly opened three rounds of fire at an employee, B. Surender, an attender, who sustained injuries. “Khan used a double barrel breech loading (DBBL shotgun) which was issued to him by the agency to fire on Surender. Preliminary inquiry revealed that a petty quarrel had led to the firing episode. Surender had a habit of teasing Khan in the office and making fun of him in front of others,” said the official, adding that the victim was reportedly out of danger.

While two rounds of shots from the gun hit the bank’s wall, the third one left a flesh wound on Surender’s torso. “One out of the three rounds fired brushed below Surender’s left rib cage, leaving a flesh wound,” the police said.

The locals who heard the loud sounds of gun firing went into a state of panic and called the cops to detain Khan. Based on a complaint by a bank representative, Alankar Kumar, a case was booked under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC and other sections of the Arms Act. Khan was booked and a probe has been launched, according to the police.
