Hyderabad: Gang held for hi-tech car theft

The police recovered three cars with a total market value of around Rs 37 lakh.

Hyderabad: Raidurgam police on Saturday arrested a businessman, a GPS expert and an engineering graduate who formed a gang to steal high-end cars by renting them through online platforms. The police recovered three cars with a total market value of around Rs 37 lakh.

Police said one of the accused, Sushant Suresh who was an engineering graduate with good communication skills, used to persuade the vehicle owners to rent their cars. After reaching the outskirts of the city, his accomplice George Christoper Joseph who was a technical expert on GPS systems would locate and disable the device.

The thefts were committed on the direction of gang leader Nidish Vinayak Kalankar who was doing a dog breeding business in Pune.

Assistant commission-er of police, Madhapur, N. Shyam Prasad said, “Nidish used to create fake ID proofs and used to zero in on the car owners of who post advertisements on social media and approach them acting as employee of a software firm to rent the cars.”

Both Raidurgam police as well as Pune police have filed cases against the gang.
