Prime Minister Narendra Modi lost 2.7 lakh followers and veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan, who is known
to be extremely touchy about his online followers’ count, lost 4.2 lakh followers.
The accounts removed are not fake accounts or bots but real people.
Twitter cannot confirm if the original person who opened the account still has control and access to it, so they are removing it.
The handle of twitter @twitter itself lost about 77 lakh accounts from its profile, which is the highest.
This is another step to improve Twitter and ensure everyone can have confidence in their followers.
Shah Rukh Khan, who is the most followed Bollywood actor on Twitter, lost 3.52 lakh followers.
US President Donald Trump lost 3.3 lakh followers.
World leaders, politicians, film stars and other celebrities woke up to the alarming sight of a reduction in the number of their followers on Twitter on Friday.
According to an independent tool, Twitter counter, Priyanka Chopra, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan lost more than three lakh followers in a day, while Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone and Hrithik Roshan lost two lakh followers.
Twitter on Wednesday announced that it is removing user accounts that are already locked out by the platform.
“Twitter has locked accounts when it detected sudden changes in account behaviour. In these situations, the platform reaches out to the owners of the accounts and unless they validate the account and reset their passwords, Twitter keeps them locked with no ability to log in. This week, Twitter will be removing these locked accounts from follower counts across profiles globally. As a result, the number of followers displayed on many profiles may go down,” the company said.

While Indians and Bollywood celebrities lost in lakhs, Hollywood folk lost in tens of lakhs.
Singer Katy Perry, who has the most-followed account on Twitter, lost about 28 lakh followers, the highest, followed by Justin Bieber, who lost more than 26 lakh followers. Rihanna, Ellen DeGeneres, Taylor Swift, and Lady Gaga also lost followers in millions.
Twitter said that it understands this may be hard for some, but the platform believes accuracy and transparency will make the platform a more trusted service for public conversation.
Furthermore, follower counts may continue to change more regularly as part of Twitter’s ongoing work to proactively identify and challenge problematic accounts.
