Prisoner daily routine: In prison, dinner at 6.30 pm

Thrice a week the prisoners are given meat and eggs.

Bengaluru: The prisoners start their day at 5 am with a roll call by the barrack warder. After the head count they rush for their morning ablutions, and are subsequently given tea/coffee.

Breakfast comprising avvalaki, upma, chittaranna and puliyogare (puffed rice and rice preparations) is served at 7.30 am following which the under trial prisoners are lined up to be sent to courts with police escorts and the convicts are sent for their routine assignments for carpentry, horticulture, agriculture etc. Women convicts work in prison bakery and are also involved in candle making. At 11 am lunch is served. It largely comprises lentil with some vegetables, leafy vegetables, rice or ragi (millet) muddey (balls).

Tea is given at 4 pm and dinner at 6.30 pm. Thrice a week the prisoners are given meat and eggs. After dinner there is again a barrack-wise roll call before they are sent inside the barracks and the iron doors are locked. The bedroll provided by the prison comprises two bed sheets and a pillow.
