New plans for Vijayawada railway station
Vijayawada: The Vijayawada Railway Division has devised new plans to allow more number of passenger trains to pass through Vijayawada station. As of now, only 200 trains are passing through the station and if the new plan works out, around 720 trains may come to Vijayawada station and pass through, without any hassles. As part of that, the Vijayawada Division is trying to clear the congestion at junctions of bottlenecks like Gudur, Gudivada, Nidadavolu and Rajahmundry. Gudur will be having two more platforms by the end of this year, which facilitates the free movement of trains coming from both Vijay-awada and Chennai directions.
Once the construction of three platforms is completed at Gudur, movement of Chennai-bound trains from Vijayawada junction and Vijayawada bound trains from Chennai will be eased, said Vijayawada divisional railway manager (DRM) R. Dhananjayulu. Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, he said that the station yard remodelling (SYR) works are also contemplated in bottleneck junctions like Rajahmundry, Nida-davolu and Gudivada to reduce the waiting time of trains at the outer signals.
These proposals have been cleared and will be started only in the coming financial year 2018-19. The DRM said that Vijayawada-Kondapalli third line works are going on at a smooth pace. They are concentrating more on decongesting the Vijayawada railway station by arranging more cross-overs. “Within a span of one or two months, the cross-over arrangements will be completed,” Mr Dhananjayulu said, and added that on a trial basis, initially they will adopt the junction easing arrangements in the BULB mode.
