Karnataka: DIG Roopa claims letter enclosed with proof

Let there be a free and fair probe into the matter and then truth will be out. Have not violated any rules'.

Bengaluru: After DGP and IGP of Prisons H. N. Sathyanarayana Rao rubbished the allegations made against him by DIG (Prisons) D. Roopa Moudgil, the latter said that "let there be a free and fair investigation into the matter and then truth will be out."

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Mr. Rao had come down heavily on the woman officer saying that she was making baseless allegations and whatever she had mentioned in the letter was not "a discovery" as she claimed and most of the points were not new at all. The officer also said the she clearly knew little about prisons and was posting "unnecessary things about prisons on social networking sites."

Reacting to this, Mrs. Roopa said that she was also an officer and she had read the prison manual. “I have not posted anything unnecessary on Facebook. I have not violated any rules of the Official Secrets Act and I have posted only positive things that are happening in the prison. In fact, they will help the department to get a better image,” she said. Rebutting Mr. Rao’s comment that the allegations were baseless, she said, “I have enclosed some other documents with the letter and they are the proof for the irregularities that are happening in the prison.”

However, she clarified that she had given the report only in the interest of the department and not for personal or professional rivalry.
