Grant to Wakf Board doubled, more hostels for BC students
Chennai: The State government has doubled the grant being extended to the Tamil Nadu Wakf Board to Rs 2 crore. Also, students’ hostels will be built for Rs 1.67 crore in the urban areas, Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Minister S. Valarmathi has announced on Thursday.
It may be noted that the government had sanctioned Rs 60 lakhs during 2017 — 18 fiscal for undertaking renovation and repair of mosques and dargahs.
Wrapping up the debate on the demand for grants to her department in the Assembly, she announced that the pay package for the part-time sanitary workers employed at the BC Welfare hostels would be revised to Rs 3,000 from the present Rs 2,000. This will entail the State government an additional expenditure of Rs 1.49 crore.
This apart, about 28 hostels for the BC, MBC and Minorities students being run by the department which lacked part-time sanitary workers, would get 28 workers on a pay of Rs 3,000. About Rs 10.8 lakh addition expenditure would be incurred by the government as a re-sult.
About 1,338 schools besides 84,314 hostels students belonging to the BC, MBC, De-notified communities besides the minorities across Tamil Nadu would get indoor and outdoor games implements at a cost of Rs 49.84 lakhs.
Earlier, moving the grants, Ms. Valarmathi said during the current fiscal about Rs 200 lakh has been provided for BC Welfare Department and another Rs 150 lakh for MBC and De-notified Communities Welfare for assigning houses to the houseless.
