Road plan a shocker: Hyderabad High Court

Civic bodies directed to explore alternative.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday asked the Kakatiya Urban Development Authority and the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation to identify an alternative road instead laying a road through the premises of Kakatiya government degree college in Hanamkonda, Warangal district

A division bench, comprising Acting Chief Justice Dilip B. Bhosale and Justice P. Naveen Rao, was dealing with a PIL by P. Dinakar, a student, challenging the authorities’ allowing the road through the college premises.

The bench asked the authorities to examine the feasibility of constructing a flyover as an alternative. When the bench questioned about the length of the road, the Municipal Commissioner, who was present in the court, said that it was 620 metres.

The bench then sought to know the difficulty in constructing a flyover when the road was less than a kilometre long. “If some untoward incident happens during construction of the road, then what you will do?” the bench asked. While asking the authorities to place the estimated costs of the road and the flyover before the court, the bench adjourned the case to next week.
