Quick check leaves minister KT Rama Rao furious
Hyderabad: A surprise nighttime inspection by Municipal Administration & Urban Development minister K.T. Rama Rao late on Tuesday night exposed the lies of GHMC authorities regarding the implementation of the 100-day action plans, mainly about roads being re-carpeted.
Mr Rama Rao took up the sudden inspection on Tuesday night at KPHB main road at Ushamullapudi, Panjagutta and other places. He found that the roads were in a pathetic condition.
Despite the monsoon plan, there are no side drains for main roads, and water had stagnated at many places. Repair works at the sewer lines laid at the Bata showroom and at KPHB Road have not been carried out since last year.
This is the third time the minister has expressed anger about bad service roads and side roads.
The minister inspected bus shelters and the drainage systems too. “Dissatisfied over the lapses in maintaining civic works and poor coordination between various state and central government agencies,” said Mr Rama Rao. He ordered the workforce to be doubled so that Kukatpally and Ushamullapudi lanes are completed at the earliest.
He asked the engineers to play a proactive role in attending emergency works.
Civic officials of Kukatpally have been directed to inspect and remove the wall across the road at Rachabanda and Rushi College and to file a criminal case if necessary.
The minister also inspected the Panjagutta graveyard area where a child was recently killed in an accident involving a drunk driver. He has asked for a report.
Mr Rao also asked GHMC officials to contact specialists for footpaths, junction improvement and landscaping.
What made KTR angry
K.T. Rama Rao’s inspection of KPHB main road at Ushamullapudi and Panjagutta helped uncover a few sore points:
- No drains on the side for main roads
- Water stagnation at many places
- Sewerline laid near Bata showroom, KPHB, has not been attended to for the last one year. Repair works are pending too.
- Ushamullapudi road repair work still slow
- Service roads and side roads remain in very bad condition
- Footpaths are not maintained anywhere
- Hawkers have erected permanent structures at Kukatpally’s main roads and there has been no enforcement mechanism
