Hyderabad: Planning too weak to fight dengue, malaria
Hyderabad: With 144 dengue cases and over 763 malaria cases registered across the city till June 2016, sanitation is proving to be a huge problem that the state government needs to address on a war footing.
During a recent meeting, carried out to tackle seasonal diseases, medical and health officials from Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts had pointed out that sanitation measures need to be taken up immediately.
A senior official said, “The Monday coordination committees’ meetings to tackle diseases have not been held in two years. There are no meetings being carried out where disease surveillance and sanitation conditions are discussed in detail. Since these have stopped, every agency is now working in isolation.” The lack of communication and coordination has led to frequent blame-games between departments.
Fogging methods, awareness about not storing water for long, emptying plastic pots and drying them once a week need to be followed religiously once monsoon begins to prevent dengue.
A senior GHMC official from Kapra circle said, “There is always a shortage of the chemicals required for fogging. Colonies surrounding the lake area require regular fogging but it is not being carried out even once a week. Due to this the problem in these areas is very high. Despite reminders for strict checks to the head office, plans are not in place.”
