Hyderabad Student Stabbed to Death in London by Brazilian Flatmate

Hyderabad: A 28-year-old woman from Hyderabad who was residing in London was stabbed to death at her accommodation in Wembley by a Brazilian national, the UK Metropolitan Police said in a statement. A 23-year-old man was detained by the police following the incident.

The woman, Kontham Tejaswini, was an engineering graduate and had moved to the UK three years ago. The UK authorities identified her as a student pursuing a master in science course, while her father K. Srinivas Reddy said she had completed her postgraduation and was working.

“Officers attended along with the London Ambulance Service and two women were treated for stab injuries. Despite the efforts of emergency services, a woman sadly died at the scene,” the UK Police said in a statement.

According to the communication received by Reddy on Wednesday morning, Tejaswini was in her accommodation along with a friend when the attack took place. The friend was also stabbed by the accused but she did not suffer life-threatening injuries, the police said.

“We came to know about the incident today morning. We don't know when it happened. We got the information that she is serious and in hospital,” Tejaswini's father was quoted telling a news channel.

Tejaswini 's cousin Vijay told mediapersons in Hyderabad that said the Brazilian man had moved into the shared accommodation, where Tejaswini lived with her friends, a few days ago.

The UK Police identified the accused as Brazilian national Keven Antonio Lourenco De Morais. He was arrested from the Harrow locality, near the crime scene of Neeld Crescent in Wembley.

“This has been a fast-moving investigation and I would like to thank the public for sharing our appeal for information about this man. He is now in custody,” Detective Chief Inspector Linda Bradley, of the Met's Specialist Crime Command, said in a statement.

Tejaswini was a native of Turkayamjal, located on the outskirts of Hyderabad, and came from an agricultural family.

Reddy, a farmer by profession, said that Tejaswini last came home in August 2022, returned to London after celebrating her birthday in September 2022 and was again supposed to visit in May 2023, but had postponed her trip.

“We had started looking for marriage alliances for her. She had even resigned her job so that she can return,” he said.

Her mother broke down upon hearing the news. “She was supposed to come home in a few more days,” she said, appealing for authorities to expedite the process of bringing home the mortal remains.

Ibrahimpatnam MLA M. Kishan Reddy visited Tejaswini’s parents, consoled them and assured all support from the government in bringing home her mortal remains at the earliest.
