KHAMMAM:  Incessant rains since last two days has hit coal production at the Sattupalli open cast mine of Singareni Collieries Company Limited in Khammam district on Monday.

On a normal day, the open cast mine produces around 20,000 tonnes of coal per day. However, miners could not undertake any operations due to rains and the accumulated rain water.

Mainly, works related to unearthing of overburden (OB) on the open ground of the mine have been hit with the rains. Generally, 50,000 tonnes of OB (soil and rubble) per day is removed from the mine before coal is extracted.

Earth movers and transport vehicles will restart work once rain water is pumped out from the mine.
