Tamil devotee beaten up at Alipir

They do not have any right to punish the devotees, though they violate the rules.

Tirupati: A devotee from Chengalapattu in Tamil Nadu has been injured during the alleged high-handed behaviour of security personnel manning Alipiri check point in Tirupati, the gateway of Tirumala on Thursday night.

Dilli Babu, who had come along with his family for darshan and motoring up to Tirumala in an APSRTC bus, has brought two packets of Khaini with him, as he was unaware of prohibition imposed on use of tobacco and liquor on Tirumala.

When the security sleuths, who were said to be deputed from Special Protection Forces (SPF), saw the devotee carrying the khaini packets, they seized and dumped them in the bin.

When the devotee tried to board the bus after allegedly taking one of the packets from the dust bin, a security sleuth, who noticed it, dragged him down from the bus.

Soon, he started beating Dilli Babu. Three other cops also joined him and repeatedly thrashed Babu, following which he suffered minor injuries. The entire act was recorded by a fellow devotee and the security sleuths who noticed the man taking video thrashed him too, it was said.

Reacting over the incident, Alipiri AV&SO, A. Surendra said, “The high-handedness of the security sleuths should be condemned. They do not have any right to punish the devotees, though they violate the rules. We will take stringent action against the guilty in the incident.”

He said that no one would be spared, if found guilty.
