Poet Pazhavila Ramesan no more

He won Sahitya Akademi award for overall contribution to literature in 2019.

Thiruvananthapuram: Poet and lyricist Pazhavila Ramesan died in a hospital on Thursday aged 83.

Born at Perinadu in Kollam as the son of N. A. Velayudhan and K. Bhanukutty, he leaves wife C. Radha and daughters Soorya and Soumya.

His cremation will take place at 2 p.m. at Santhikavadam, Thycaud, in the city on Friday.

He had won Kerala Sahitya Akademi award for overall contribution to literature in 2019.

His major works included Mazhayude Jalakam, Njan Ente Kattukalilekku (collection of poems), Ormayude Varthamanam, Mayatha Varakal and Nervara (prose collection).

He penned songs for several Malayalam movies including Njattadi, Aashamsakalode, Malootty, Uncle Bun and Vasudha.

Mr Rameshan, who started his career as a journalist, later worked at the Kerala Bhasha Institute.

Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said he had always stood by secular values firmly and was a proponent of modern poetry.

Cultural affairs minister A. K. Balan remembered Mr Rameshan as a poet who was inspired by renaissance values.

During the last many years of his life, Mr Rameshan had not been active in public life as he had had acute diabetes.
