Hyderabad: Metro adds train to Hitec corridor
Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited will run an extra train per hour on the Ameerpet-Hitec City route to cope with the rush of passengers. The additional train will be continued till the reversal facility at Hitec City is completed, after which the frequency of trains will be increased as per requirement.
HMRL managing director N.V.S. Reddy said that with the opening of Ameerpet-Hitec City section, arrangements by software companies for their employees to travel by Metro Rail and gradual introduction of more shuttle services from Hitec City, Durgam Cheruvu, Tarnaka, Mettuguda, Secunderabad East, Uppal, among others, commuter numbers were increasing. “As of now around 2.75 lakh passengers are travelling on week days and the maximum rush is being experienced on the Ameerpet-Hitec City section with about 14,000 passengers travelling during morning peak hours of 9 am to 11 am,” he said.
Asked about the commencement of train reversal facility, Mr Reddy said trains were being run with average frequency of 7.5 minutes with additional trains. HMRL was mulling opening the route up to Raidurg (Mindspace junction) in August as it is almost ready. He said this option has many advantages until the commissioning of the train reversal facility.
