Hyderabad: GHMC commissioner M. Dana Kishore on Thursday issued a showcause notice to town planning officials for delaying acquisition of to construct a skyway at Bahadurpura as part of the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP). Mr Kishore expressed displeasure at officials for not completing the land and property acquisition process which began in 2017.
He asked them to prepare compensation cheques in two days and issue them to owners whose property was acquired for constructing the Madhura flyover.
Mr Kishore inspected the progress of works in the Charminar zone and issued showcause notices to assistant city planners and city planners for delaying land and property acquisition.
The construction of the flyover at Bahadurpura junction has been progressing smoothly. In July last, the then municipal administration minister K.T. Rama Rao laid the foundation for the flyover which will facilitate the free flow of traffic from Puranapul to the zoo. Designed as a six-lane facility, the 680-metre flyover is being constructed at a cost of Rs 69 crore, and the GHMC aims to complete the work by year end.
The GHMC commissioner was unhappy with the condition of the main road in Rakshapuram. When he inquired with the superintending engineer, Charminar zone, the latter said that the work for laying the BT road was sanctioned to the tune of Rs 8.32 crore under periodical preventive maintenance and allotted to Nagarjuna Hitech. Work had failed to start despite several notices.
The SE Projects said that proposals to determine the work were submitted to the Chief Engineer, GHMC, with a recommendation to debar the agency. He observed that a small stretch of road opposite Bahadurpura police station was dug up by the Water Board and instructed officials to restore the road immediately.
Mr Kishore inspected Rakshapuram and interacted with NGOs and residents and obtained feedback. Residents expressed satisfaction with the ‘Saaf-Shaandaar Hyderabad’ programme due to which sanitation has improved and the quantity of debris dumping has drastically come down from 10 trips to two.
