CPM on a massive drive to fix reasons for debacle in LS polls
Thiruvananthapuram: The CPM is set to undertake a massive exercise to fix the reasons behind the huge defeat in Lok Sabha elections.
The assessment carried out by central committee recently will be discussed at the state, district and local levels in the party. The district, area and local committees will conduct a detailed evaluation of the election results with specific inputs from their respective areas. Besides, a minute assessment of voting pattern will be undertaken at the booth level to find out the reasons for loss in vote share.
The exercise is aimed at identifying the political factors and social factors that led to the huge debacle.
One round of state committee meeting is over. After the district and booth level assessment, the state committee will meet again. Once that process is completed, the party will arrive at definite conclusions and draw lessons from the defeat.
The CPM leaders say steps will be taken in the right earnest to remove misunderstanding and apprehensions of the people especially those who have moved away from the Left temporarily. They are hopeful of regaining lost ground. On Sabarimala issue, CPM central committee member and LDF convenor A.Vijayaraghavan b-elieves that a section of the believer had serious misunderstanding about the Left's stand on the matter. "We were not able to explain our stand to them properly. A majority of them have always stood with the Left. We will continue to explain the Left's stand and convince them to come back to us," he added.
The Left camp admits that a serious introspection is the need of the hour. With bypolls to 44 local bodies later this month and six assembly constituencies to be held, the CPM and the LDF have little time to identify the factors for the loss, put their house in order and regain people's mandate.
