Kempegowda International Airport opens crew-only terminal

The facility will be operational round the clock and help crew complete security checks in lesser time.

Bengaluru: In order to decongest the main terminal and provide easy access to airline crew, Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) has now introduced a crew-only terminal. It is the first airport in the country to provide such a facility.

The new terminal is located in close to the airline offices and the airline crew will have a hassle-free entry to the airside, as they no longer need to go through the long queues at security check-points at the main Terminal.

The facility will be operational round the clock and help crew complete security checks in lesser time.

On an average, 350 to 400 crew members depart through the new facility each day and the numbers are expected to touch over 500-600 in the coming days.

Currently the terminal will only cater to the crew of domestic airlines, while those for international flights will continue to use the main terminal to complete their mandatory immigration and regulatory formalities.

This initiative will also reduce the waiting period for passengers during security checks at the main terminal. With over 90,000 passengers and over 600 aircraft movement every day, KIA is currently the third busiest airport in India.

BIAL Chief Operating Officer Javed Malik said: “The introduction of the crew terminal is testimony to BIAL’s spirit of innovation. We are always looking for ways to improve the stakeholder experience at our airport.”
