Ex-CoP S George deposes before Jayalalithaa probe panel
Chennai: The former Chennai City Police Commissioner S George appeared for two hours on Wednesday before the Justice A Arumughaswamy Commission, which is probing the circumstances surrounding death of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. The Commission has also directed him to appear before the Commission on Thursday.
The retired IPS officer reached the Commission at 2.10 pm Wednesday and advocates S Parthasarathy and Niranjan of Madurai posed several questions to him. The proceedings, which commenced at 2.30 pm, ended at 4.30 pm.
On his way out, George did not respond to queries raised by reporters. According to sources, during the proceedings, advocates asked him several questions relating to Jayalalithaa during his service in Chennai. In 2011, while he was serving as ADGP, Law and Order, Chennai, Sasikala, Jaya's aide was sent away from her residence in Poes Garden. George said he came to know that she was sent out from her house following differences of opinion among them.
When asked why he was transferred from the post of Commissioner of Police, Chennai, he said family members of famous industrialist Mukesh Ambani, Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan and superstar Rajinikanth took part as spectators in 2015 Indian Super League match in Chennai and George was transferred from his post the since he had not alerted the Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa about this. He came to know about this only after the transfer.
George also said that he had not met the CM during her hospitalisation in Apollo. He came to know about CM's health only through Health and Family Welfare Department. Dr J Radhakrishnan. Police sources also informed him about deterioration of Jaya's health on December 4, 2016.
George stated that he had not contacted Sasikala as there was no necessity to meet her. As the advocates have not completed the cross examination on Wednesday, the Commission directed George to appear before the Commission on Thursday.
