Cellphone jammers to be installed at Puzhal, prisons: TN CM
Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday announced to install cellphone signal jammers inside prisons at Puzhal, Madurai, Tiruchi and Palayamkottai to prevent inmates from using mobile phones.
The jammers would be procured at a cost of Rs 10.10 crore, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami informed. Making a statement under rule 110 in the Assembly he said already the government has installed signal jammers at nine central prisons across the State and the present exercise is a continuation of the initiative to prevent inmates from using mobile phones.
Also, the infrastructure in the Puzhal Central prison would be improved at a cost of Rs 15.90 crore to increase its capacity to accommodate additional 500 prisoners.
Further, Aiming to provide self-employment opportunities for the differently abled, the TN government would provide a subsidy of Rs. 25,000 per person to enable the setting up of sales centres to market Aavin products.
About 860 Anganwadi centres across the State will be renovated at a cost of '17 crore, Mr. Palaniswami informed.
