Hyderabad: Army to check if it can close Golf Course roads
Hyderabad: The Local Military Authority has sought 15 days to verify its records after RTI data provided by the Defence Estates Office stated that six closed roads in the Secunderabad Cantonment were not under the Army jurisdiction.
On March 17, this newspaper had published the list of six roads which were closed but did not belong to the Army according to the Defence Estates Office. The LMA has now stated that only three roads are under SCB control.
The Defence Estates Office had revealed in response to an RTI application that six roads out of 12 that have been shut in the Golf Course area belong to the SCB and not the LMA.
Contrary to this, the DEO and the SCB chief executive officer had told a court that these roads belonged to the LMA and were A1 defence roads which it was authorised to close.
On Tuesday, civilian ward members and Army officials argued over the closure of roads at the SCB meeting.
“We demanded that the LMA remove the barricades and re-open roads falling in ‘C’ category roads. The roads were repaired and maintained by the SCB and were closed without following the due process of law and the Canton-ment Act 2006,” said SCB vice-president J. Rama Krishna.
SCB president Brig. Ajay Malik said the LMA had sought 15 days to verify and issue a final list of roads that fall under the LMA and the Secunderabad Cant-onment Board.
