Activist: Cop said she too is stared at by her male colleagues
Hyderabad: An activist who had complained that a constable had leched at her alleged on Tuesday that a senior woman police officer told her that she too was stared at by her male colleagues.
Ms Varsha Bhargavi, adviser to the Telangana state Child Rights Protection Forum, had earlier tweeted to Director-General of Police Anurag Sharma, saying “Why was the police constable in Jeedimetla PS kept his gaze fixed on my left breast while I was reporting theft? (sic)”
While an inquiry was on regarding her complaint, Ms Bhargavi tweeted again on Tuesday about her conversation with a senior woman police officer from the Cyberabad Commissionerate.
She said in her tweet that the officer “casually referred that she too gets similar gazes from her male colleagues (sic)” The officer whom she named was unavailable to comment.
A senior police official from Cyberabad said the concerns raised by Ms Bhargavi were taken seriously. “We are in the process of collecting evidence on her allegations. Based on that, action will be taken,” he said. Police said no case was registered at the Jeedimetla police station in this regard as Ms Bhargavi had not lodged a written complaint.
