Officials have seized around 30 school buses across the state, including nine in the city.

Hyderabad: Keeping in view of the opening of schools for the new academic year across the state, the state transport department has initiated a crackdown on the school buses which are operating without renewal of the fitness certificate or not having valid documents. Officials have seized around 30 school buses across the state, including nine in the city.

Of the 21,598 school buses across the state, fitness certificates were secured for 14,104 till Monday,as against 10,935 renewals last year. The rest include around 3,000 buses without fitness certificates and others being scrapped or older than 15 years which are not permitted.

“Cases will be booked against the vehicle driver and the owner. If any bus is found with violations, the driver’s licence will be suspended for three months and the owner will be held responsible for appointing him,” deputy transport commissioner Ramesh said.
