Rajasthan coaching institute goes out of its way, gifts topper a BMW
Jaipur: A coaching institute in Rajasthan’s Sikar district has set the bars a notch higher for other academies by gifting its top rank holder a luxury car worth Rs 27.5 lakh.
Tanmay Shekhawat, a student of Samarpan coaching institute in Sikar, close to the capital Jaipur, was gifted the car by the chairperson of the coaching institute Dr RL Poonia after he secured 11th rank in the recently held Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), which forms the criteria for admissions into the engineering courses.
The vehicle has been in Poonia’s use for the past two years and has travelled 1500 kilometres.
The concept of gifting toppers in the coaching academies is not alien, but such an expensive gift has been unheard of until now, and has raised eyebrows.
Speaking to the Hindustan Times, Tanmaya said, “The director (of the institute) had announced that whoever achieves a rank under 20 in the IIT-JEE Advanced, will get his BMW. He kept his promise.”
The next task ahead of the teenager, who has been is to learn driving. Ironically, his family does not own any vehicle.
Tanmaya originally hails from Churu district, and had to stay in the kitchen of a household to study in the coaching institute as he could not afford a room all to himself. He is keen to study computer sciences in IIT Bombay.
Sikar has seen many new coaching centres cropping up in an attempt to replicate the success of the coaching industry market in neighbouring Kota.
