Thrissur: Four of family die in car-lorry collision

Daughter of Mr Kumar, Devanandana, 3, and Nivedika, 2, niece of Nisha, also died in the accident.

Thrissur: Four close relatives including two children died in an accident in which their car collided with a tanker lorry at Kottamkulam at Perinjanam near Kaipamangalam here on Monday afternoon.

The deceased are Ramakrishnan, 68, resident of Pallikkara in Aluva, and Nisha 33, wife of Pramod Kumar who is a native of Chittattukara near Changanassery.

Daughter of Mr Kumar, Devanandana, 3, and Nivedika, 2, niece of Nisha, also died in the accident.

Mr Kumar is a policeman presently working in Kottayam SP office.

Mr Ramakrishnan is the father-in-law of Mr Kumar. Mr Kumar who was driving the car escaped unhurt.

The family was returning from Guruvayur Temple after offering prayers when their car collided with the tanker of Bharat Petroleum.

The accident occurred at 3.30 pm, and a major portion of the car got completely crushed. Even though the injured were rushed to the nearest hospital, all the four were declared brought dead, cops at Kaipamangalam police station said.

The tanker driver has been taken into custody, and the cops are inquiring into the exact reason behind the accident, they added.
