Six witnesses examined in Kevin case

There are 14 accused in the case and based on a preliminary hearing, the court has framed charges against all the accused.

Kottayam: The prosecution in the Kevin murder case examined six witnesses at the principal sessions judge’s court here on Monday.

Joseph alias Rajan, father of Kevin, who was examined, said that second accused Niyas and fifth accused Chacko had met him on the day before the incident that happened on the night of May 28, 2018, and asked him to hand over Neenu, whom Kevin had married.

The prosecution also showed the CCTV footages of the two vehicles which took the teams led by first accused Syanu Chacko and third accused, Ishan Ismail, who were on their way to the house of Anish, relative of Kevin, at Mannanam. The vehicles were seen passing in front of KE school at Mannanam which is hardly one km from the house of Anish, from where the two were abducted by the accused.

The police also examined Ishan Ismail who was travelling in another vehicle which was intercepted by the police 150 meters from the house of Anish. The police also examined ASI Sunnymon, who was the GD charge at the Gandhinagar police station when the news about the abduction was informed from the Ettumanoor police station.

Vishnu, 58th witness, identified Shanu, 12th accused, to whom he had handed over his SIM card which he had used while committing the offence.

Betty Benny, proprietor of the hostel in which Neenu stayed at the time of the incident, was also examined. She said that the first accused Syanu Chacko rang up from the mobile of the fourth accused, Riyas, and asked her to send out Neenu from the hostel. Betty also said that the accused used abusive language against her. She showed the register of the hostel in which she recorded the mobile number by which the first accused rang her up.

Adv Jessy, who practises at the Ettumanur bar, was examined as she had given the legal advice to Neenu and Kevin for registering their marriage online.

As per the prosecution case, a gang led by Syanu Chacko,brother of Neenu, abducted Kevin from his relative’s residence at Mannanam to Thenmala on the night of May 28 last year and chased him to a stream at Chaliyakkara near Thenmala with an intention to kill him. There are 14 accused in the case and based on a preliminary hearing, the court has framed charges against all the accused.
