Hyderabad: Bringing great relief to Mahbubnagar (old) district and its drinking water problem, Krishna river water released from Karnataka reached Telangana state on Monday.
Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, had promised that the Krishna water from the Narayanapur reservoir in state would be released to the Jurala project in Mahbubnagar district, and he has kept his promise.
Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had requested Mr Kumaraswamy to release 2.5 tmc Krishna water to the state for the water-starved Mahbubnagar district.
On May 3, Mr Kumaraswamy called and assured Mr Rao that the water would be released.
Karnataka has to release Krishna water from the Narayanapur reservoir but there was insufficient water in the reservoir and so Karnataka released the Krishna water from the Almatti reservoir to the Narayanapur reservoir and from there the water was released to Telangana.
Karnataka began releasing the Krishna water three day ago. On the first day 2110 cusecs was released and on the second day 8000 cusecs was released. Officials said by Tuesday the water will reach the Jurala project in Mahabubnagar.
