Bengaluru: Under light for graft, postal assistant ends life

Reddy hailed from Andhra Pradesh and came to Bengaluru along with the family a few years ago.

Bengaluru: A Postal Assistant at the Head Post Office in the city who was accused of transfering over Rs. 9 lakh to private accounts after forging documents has committed suicide a day after complaint was filed against him on Saturday.

The deceased is Srinivas Reddy (29), a resident of Munirayanapallya in RT Nagar. An Assistant Superintendent at the head office BJ Timmorao had filed a cheating complaint with the Vidhana Soudha police station on Saturday against Reddy. It is suspected that Reddy committed suicide on Sunday fearing arrest by the police.

Reddy hailed from Andhra Pradesh and came to Bengaluru along with the family a few years ago. Reddy's wife who is pregnant had been to her mother's house for delivery. Reddy who was home alone, used to talk to her wife daily until Sunday when his wife's calls went unanswered.

Suspecting something fishy, Reddy's wife called up house owner to check on her husband saying he did not answer her calls the entire day. The house owner went to Reddy's flat to check at around 9 pm and found him dead. He then informed police and his family. The Hebbal police rushed to the spot and found a death note near Reddy's body I which he had written that he lost a lot of money in betting. He held himslef responsible for his death.

Forged papers, transferred money
According to a source, Reddy was incharge of social security scheme under which beneficiaries were transferred money via electronic money order. Reddy was supposed to deposit the undelivered money to the government account but he forge documents and transferred the money to private accounts.
