Bengaluru: While BMRCL may have missed many deadlines to get the Phase 1 up and running, the BMTC is already witnessing a drop in patronage on routes where Namma Metro services are currently functioning.
According to BMTC sources following the launch of purple line (between Baiyappanahalli and Mysuru Road) they have lost around 15% of revenue. "Every day thousands of people were using the BMTC buses on this route, especially KBS, Majestic and Mysore Road. But once the purple line was launched BMTC is witnessing huge revenue loss," he explained.
With the BMRCL expected to start its much-delayed Yelachenahalli-Nagasandra corridor (green line) by June, BMTC officials are expecting a further dip in their revenues.
"Once the green line, which connects West Bengaluru with southern part of the city, is made operational, BMTC would witness further dip in the daily revenue. As this route connects the K,R, Market, the commercial hub of the city, with South, West and East Bengaluru, BMTC revenue is expected to come down by around 20%,'' the official pointed out.
