Kasargod: Seven Velankanni pilgrims die in road mishap on return
Kasargod: Seven members of a family from Kayyar, including three brothers, were killed when their car in which they were returning from Velankanni to Kasargod met with an accident early on Saturday.
The car was hit by a tanker lorry at Karoor, some 100 km from here. Four others were injured and three of them are critical.
The deceased have been identified as Herald Montero, 50, wife Praseela, 40, son Rohith D’Souza, 22, Herald’s brother Sathorine Mon-tero, 35, daughter Sharona, 5, another brother Alwin Montero, 29, and sister-in-law Reema, 37. Reema is the wife of Herald’s brother Denzin Montero.
Sathorine’s wife Jeshma, 26, daughter Shanvi (one-and-a-half years) and Alwin’s wife Preema Sharol were admitted to a private hospital in Tiruchi with serious injuries. Herald’s another son Roshan escaped with minor injuries.
Herald was driving the car. Alwin’s marriage was on May 6 and the family had gone to Velankanni on May 11.
Herald, a canteen contractor in Pune for more than 25 years, had come to his native place with family to attend the wedding of his brother. Alwin came from Dubai. The funeral would be held at Christ the King church at Kayyar on Sunday.
