Hyderabad: Transco staffer tries to end life
Hyderabad: A TS Transco staffer attempted suicide by consuming sleeping pills following alleged harassment at work by lift irrigation department superintendent V.D.B. Srinivas.
The staffer, a typist at Vidyut Soudha, alleged that Srinivas had been demanding sexual favo-urs under threat of having her transferred to AP.
A police officer said the victim, 33, was working at the Transco headquarters for more than six years. For the past few months, dep-artment superintendent Srinivas, had started harassing her sexually. She had ignored him, but he had begun threatening her.
Police said that on Friday, Srinivas had an argument with her. Depressed, she left office and started for her home in an RTC bus. When the bus reached Himayatnagar, she consumed around 15 sleeping pills which she was carrying in her handbag.
When the bus reached VST, she felt drowsy and began vomiting. With the help of other passengers, she called her brother who rushed to the spot and took her to a nearby private hospital. The victim is out of danger.
Based on information from the hospital, Narayanguda police took her complaint and booked a case of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation against Srinivas.
