Give information on shady US varsities, Telangana tells MEA
Hyderabad: Union minister of state V.K. Singh on Saturday said that the US administration has assured the NDA government of taking steps in order to ensure security to the Indian community living in that country as they are American citizens.
He was replying to a question on the recent incidents of hate crimes against Indians in the US. Mr Singh stated that they were stray incidents blown out of proportion and there are no reasons to be worried.
He further stated that the MEA was constantly in touch with the US administration to render any help to the NRIs.
Meanwhile, state NRI affairs minister K.T. Rama Rao appealed to the Centre to focus on assisting scores of Indian students dreaming of higher education in the US.
“There were incidents in the last few years when Indian students landed in the US only to find that they had taken admissions in blacklisted universities. They were deported ultimately. This situation could be avoided if the MEA shares information of blacklisted universities with all states so that students are benefited,” he said.
Commenting on the financial assistance to migrants meeting an untimely death especially in the Gulf, Mr Singh said that the Centre was trying to overhaul the Pravasi Bheem Yojana so that even migrants who die of natural causes get insurance amount.
Mr Singh lauded Mr Rama Rao’s suggestion to reach out to the Indian diaspora abroad through embassies so that NRIs come forward to take part in various initiatives apart from just giving customary donations.
