Chennai: An eight-year-old girl attending a swimming lesson at a private pool in Mogappair East drowned on Saturday morning. P.B.Andrea, daughter of Biju, an assistant director in movies, was a resident of Padi New Town. She was class III student of a private school in Nolambur. Police said that she had enrolled for a 15-day course in swimming and she was on her 12th day of learning swimming when the fatal incident happened.
The girl was accompanied to the pool by her farther. Police said that they were checking the CCTV footage to know what led to the death of the girl. While practicing, the girl swallowed lot of water, chocked and became unconscious. She was taken to hospital where she was declared dead. Police said that preliminary autopsy report suggested that she died after water entered her lungs.
“We will have to investigate and find out what caused that situation in the pool. It is not clear who forced her to continue swimming without noticing that she was tired,” police said.
