Hyderabad: The fire services department does not have the power to control or issue licenses to chemical godowns and companies under the Fire Services Act.
The deputy controller for petroleum and explosives department under the Ministry of Petroleum has the power to issue licenses or take necessary action against erring godown owners.
The Fire Services Act also does not give any power to the department to control firecracker and plastic godowns. Sections 13 and 14 of the Act, however, say that the fire services department can take action against erring godowns in view of public safety.
Based on these sections, the Telangana government has given the power to the Fire department to issue NOCs and licenses to firecracker godowns through a GO (No 47) released on April 27, 2016. The fire services authority will be requesting the government for powers to control chemical and plastic godowns in the state.
