Fire services target 8 buildings in Hyderabad
Hyderabad: The Telangana fire services authority has insisted on prosecuting owners and respondents of eight buildings across the state for violating fire safety norms and rules.
Fire Services DG Mr Rajiv Ratan told DC that the department had undertaken random checks in commercial buildings of more than 15 metres height, residential buildings more than 18 metres high and other business establishments for identifying violations of fire safety norms.
“A computer application randomly chooses name of a building and the inspecting officer, who will be from another district. We have inspected 32 buildings in all the 10 districts and found eight as high risk without any fire safety norms,” he said.
He said that the inspections would continue in the state. “Apart from the inspections, staff from each fire station in the city are holding drills at buildings in GHMC limits and advising owners about procuring fire safety equipment. “These drills are for identifying high risk buildings and not for creating panic among owners,” he added.
