KTR to launch new treatment plant at Jawaharnagar today
Hyderabad: Minister K.T. Rama Rao will inaugurate a leachate (liquid waste) treatment plant in the Jawaharnagar dump yard on Saturday. Saturday’s inauguration of the plant is to ensure that Jawaharnagar and its adjoining localities do not have any water pollution.
The GHMC has divided the purification works of the nearby Malkaram Cheruvu into three phases. Around 5.7 acres of the water body was purified in the first phase. The process of purifying the legacy waste is underway.
Malkaram Cheruvu was polluted with waste water because of the leachate which gathered at the Jawaharnagar dump yard. Some water bodies in the surrounding localities too got polluted when the contaminated water overflowed.
A mobile RO system of 2000 kilolitres per day capacity was started in 2017 as a temporary measure. The capacity was subsequently increased to 4000 kilolitres. Besides this, purification of water in Malkaram Cheruvu was also taken up.
