Private school stopped from fleecing parents in Coimbatore
COIMBATORE: Parents of students enrolled in the Amrita Vidyalayam, located in Ramasamy Nagar, Extension II, Nallampalayam, Road can now heave a sigh of relief as it is no longer mandatory for them to pay Rs 5,000 and purchase accessories from the school.
Earlier this month, a section of parents of the private school petitioned district collector K Rajamani bringing to his notice that the school has made it mandatory for parents to purchase accessories from the school by paying Rs 5,000, apart from paying money for purchase of books and the school term fee.
“The management of the school refused to provide books demanding that the payment for accessories was made”, one of the parents told DC.
As many as 50 parents whose children are enrolled in the school petitioned district collector. One of the parents told DC that last year, left with no other option, for accessories alone parents paid a sum of Rs 2,500 and what was provided by the school was of sub-standard quality.
The same was brought to the notice of the chief educational officer (CEO) Mr R Murugan who issued an order stating the school should not make it compulsory for the parents to purchase accessories like school bag, lunch bag, socks, uniform and shoes among others from the school.
