Bengaluru: Frequent outages add to summer misery
Bengaluru: While Bengalureans are reeling under a harsh summer, unscheduled and frequent power cuts are adding to the misery.
This problem is prevalent across the city and furious residents are now venting their ire on Bescom, as they have to endure hot afternoons without fans and air conditioners.
Apartment complexes and even houses are facing water shortages as they are not able to operate their water pumps to store water in overhead tanks.
On April 11 alone around 7,618 complaints were registered with Bescom. Areas such as HSR Layout, Mahadevapura, Whitefield and Banaswadi witnessed frequent power cuts.
On Friday morning the worst affected part was Ramamurthy Nagar and surrounding areas, as the residents had go without power for more than eight hours.
When Bescom officials were contacted, they claimed the power disruption was due to underground wire fault.
Ullas Rao, a resident of Ramamurthy Nagar said, "It was horrible situation to stay inside the house without power supply. The power cut began from the early hours of Friday, which is around 3 am and was restored at 1 pm. Later on in the day, the power was disrupted for more than 12 times till late night. This is summer and it is difficult to manage without power."
He added, "When I checked with Bescom, they told me that there was an underground line fault. But we never knew that they would take more than eight hours to resolve the issue. The Bescom should be quicker in resolving such problems. There are old people and kids at home, who cannot stay for long without fans and coolers in this humidity."
When DC contacted Bescom, they said that there are unexpected technical issues which cannot be prevented. One of the official who attending to the problem in Ramamurthy Nagar said, “The underground line default needs time to be rectified. We cannot fix it within an hour and also we do not have enough line men.”
When asked about frequent power cuts in Whitefield, another official said it was due to the ongoing metro construction work. The utility systems are currently being shifted and unless the shifting is over there will be power cuts.
