Hyderabad: Child bride wants to become banker

Sandhya said her dream was to become a bank manager.

Hyderabad: Child marriage survivor V. Sandhya notched 86 per cent marks in the intermediate second-year results announced on Friday. “I am very happy as I scored 86 per cent despite being a child marriage survivor. I thought I will score more than this. I may seek re-valuation. My parents arranged my marriage when I was 16, but I was rescued by Balala Hakkula Sangham in 2016. But my father committed suicide after my marriage was called off," Sandhya told Deccan Chronicle.

Expressing happiness over her good score, Sangham president Achyuta Rao said, “When Sandhya’s parents planned her marriage, they even forced her not to write her second paper of SSC final examination. But with a lot of determination she finished her SSC exams. We appeal to the Government to extend her help for her studies.”

Sandhya said her dream was to become a bank manager. “I wish to continue my studies to fulfil my dream of working in a bank. I appeal the Government to help me in my further studies as my mother cannot afford it. I want the Government to create more awareness against child marriage and save the more child brides like me so that girls like me can stand on their own feet and take care of their parents without depending on anyone,” she added.
