Hyderabad: Bribery case filed against judge

Two advocates, K. Srinivasa Rao and G. Satish Kumar, have been found to be acting in collusion with Muurthy.

Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a case of bribery against Nampally additional metropolitan sessions judge S. Radhakrishna Murthy in the cash for bail scam, following directions from the High Court. Murthy is accused of demanding Rs 7.5 lakh from Marupaka Dattu, booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act in 2017, in exchange for granting bail. Two advocates, K. Srinivasa Rao and G. Satish Kumar, have been found to be acting in collusion with Muurthy.

The matter came to light thanks to a complaint filed by advocate T. Srinagar Rao on behalf of Dattu, an MTech student at Malla Reddy College of Engineering, Kompally. In his complaint, Rao stated that he had filed three bail applications on behalf of Dattu, who was in custody for 51 days. On all three occasions, Murthy had dismissed the applications without allowing Rao to make a submission. Meanwhile, Dattu's cousins were contacted by certain individuals who claimed they had ac cess to Murthy and could "negotiate" a favourable order.

Rao's complaint adds that Dattu's family was told that the bribe amount was Rs 10 lakh, which was reduced to Rs 7.5 lakh upon further negotiations.
