BBMP to tighten screws against hoarding mafia
Bengaluru: After the High Court came heavily on the civic body's failure in putting an end to the illegal hoardings in the city, the BBMP has started taking action against them. The civic body was losing crores of advertisement revenue due to illegal hoardings.
All these days the Palike used to tear off the banner and claim that it has removed the illegal hoarding. But due to the unholy nexus between the illegal hoarding mafia and certain BBMP officials, the hoardings which were removed used to soon reappear.
With an intention to put an end to this menace, BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad had directed that while carrying out drive against illegal hoardings, the entire frame of should be removed.
Prasad told Deccan Chronicle, "Removing the flex banner did not help curb the illegal hoardings as they used to reappear soon. The process of removing the frames of illegal hoardings is on."
For this purpose, BBMP has invited short-term tenders. As there was no big participation we have directed the officials to call for re-tender. Till then our BBMP workers will remove frames of the structure. Of the eight BBMP zones, in one zone 31 illegal hoarding frames were removed, he said. He added that the drive against illegal hoardings is picking up and soon the city will be free from it.
