Karnataka High Court disposes of plea against IPL matches
BENGALURU: The High Court on Wednesday disposed of the PIL against holding of IPL matches in Bengaluru, citing water crisis. Disposing of the plea, it directed the BWSSB Chairman to hold a meeting with all concerned, including Karnataka State Cricket Association, to ensure that water is not wasted during IPL matches at Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The division bench, headed by Chief Justice S.K. Mukherjee, passed the order. The petition sought a ‘water audit’ at Chinnaswamy Stadium to justify the massive use of water for a private commercial event like IPL.
The KSCA earlier submitted that it has taken steps to set up a plant to treat waste water at a cost of Rs 85 lakh, which will have a capacity to treat 2.10 lakh litres. It said that at present it requires 18,000 litres of water to maintain the pitches and once the plant starts functioning, it would not require BWSSB water.
Adi case: The High Court on Wednesday refused to stay the proceedings against Justice Subhash B. Adi, Upalokayukta-II. He had approached the court challenging the order of a single judge, which had dismissed his petition questioning the process adopted by the Assembly Speaker on the motion moved for his removal from the post.
