Bengaluru: IPL team police vehicle hits tanker, 4 injured
BENGALURU: A police escort vehicle, with nine policemen on board, who were escorting Sunrisers Hyderabad IPL team had a narrow escape after it rear ended a stationary water tanker in Yelahanka. Four policemen, including the driver, sustained injuries.
The accident took place around 11.30 am near Indian Air Force station. The policemen were traveling in a Tempo Traveller and escorting the cricket team to the Kempegowda International Airport. The Sunrisers team had come to the city to play a match with Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday.
According to the police, a water tanker, belonging to BBMP, was watering plants on the median in Venkatalla in Yelahanka. The Tempo Traveller driver, Obalesh, allegedly mistook the tanker to be moving and realised his mistake only when drove close to the tanker. He applied emergency brakes, but the vehicle rammed into the tanker.
Due to the collision, Obalesh sustained a deep cut on his head, while another policeman Malleshappa, who was seated in the front seat, sustained fracture in his right arm. Two other policemen also sustained internal abrasions.
DCP traffic (North) Renuka rushed to the spot and shifted the injured policemen to Columbia Asia Hospital. “As soon as I got to know, I immediately reached the spot to make sure that policemen get proper medical help. They were taken to Columbia Asia Hospital where driver Obalesh was administered eight stitches, while Malleshappa was admitted,” she added. Yelahanka traffic police have registered a case and begun investigation.
