Jagan Mohan Reddy to launch election campaign on March 16
Vijayawada: YSRC chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy will blow the poll bugle from his family estate in Idupulapaya in Kadapa district on March 16. He will kick start his election campaign in a helicopter after paying tributes to his late father Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy who was laid to rest in Idupulapaya. He will also release the party contesting candidates’ list on the same day.
From Idupulapaya, he will proceed to Gurazala in Guntur district to address his first road show. An auspicious muhurtam has also been fixed for Mr Jagan to launch the election campaign. The party has also hired a helicopter to save time and cover more ground.
This will be Jagan’s another Mass Contact Programme after the historic padayatra Praja Sankalpa Yatra which was termed as India’s mega mass outreach programme. As a matter of sentiment, Mr Jagan has been choosing Idupulapaya, to launch any programme, as his late father Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy was laid to rest here.
After paying tributes at Idupulapaya, Jagan will kick-start the election campaign from Gurazala Assembly constituency in Guntur district.
The first public meeting will be held at Piduguralla of Gurazala Assembly constituency on March 16 and this will be followed by public meetings at Narsipatnam, Nellimerla and P. Gannavaram.
Party honorary president Y.S. Vijayalakshmi and Y.S. Sharmila will also campaign and the schedule will be chalked out to cover a minimum of three constituencies for Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and it may go up depending on the need, said party general secretary Talasila Raghuram.
During the Praja Sankalpa Yatra, 134 Assembly constituencies were covered by Mr Reddy and preference will be given to the remaining places, which is the reason why Gurazala was included and the electioneering will begin from there.
Though initially, three public meetings are scheduled per day, the number may be increased in due course and the schedule will be announced once in three days, he said.
Earlier, it was expected that YSRC will release its candidates’ list on Wednesday and also Jagan will launch the election campaign on the same day. But it was postponed owing to delay in finalising the list.
Jagan has been giving final touches to the list. He is expected to visit at least 50 to 60 Assembly segments in the coming few days. These segments are those that were not covered under his Pada Yatra.
